My review:

 

            Patrick Carr does not disappoint with his thrilling conclusion the The Staff and Sword series! After returning from his mission to Merakh, Errol Stone finds the kingdom worse off than when he left, with Duke Weir is sitting on the throne and enemies threatening on all fronts.

            I have been a fan of Errol’s since he started the series in the bottom of an ale barrel and it has been wonderful seeing how far he has risen and how much he has grown. Carr has also written a fantastic group of supporting characters whose storylines all converge in this thrilling conclusion.

            The pace was much quicker than the first two novels and the story starts off with a bang. The entire series has been very large scale but the author does a good job of not letting the reader get lost. One of my only complaints for this book and the other two in the series was that a glossary and/or map would have been appreciated at times. Sometimes I had trouble keeping the different countries straight. This was minor however and did not distract from my enjoyment of the story.

            I would highly recommend this entire series and cannot wait to see what Carr has in store next!
